What is hydrotherapy and how does it work?
Hydrotherapy uses warm water to support movement, reduce pain and improve mobility. It is particularly effective for patients who struggle with land-based exercise.
Who is hydrotherapy suitable for?
Hydrotherapy is suitable for a wide range of patients, including:
- Neurological conditions
- Post-surgical rehabilitation
- Chronic pain
- Children with developmental needs
Is hydrotherapy safe?
Yes. At Bluebell, all sessions are:
- Clinically supervised
- Risk assessed
- Tailored to individual needs
What types of physiotherapy do you offer?
We provide specialist physiotherapy and hydrotherapy for a wide range of conditions, including:
- Musculoskeletal – neck pain, back pain, joint problems, muscular problems
- Sports Injuries – sport related conditions and injuries
- Surgery – conditions requiring rehabilitation following many types of surgery
- Neurological – conditions affecting the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord)
- Chronic Pain / Fatigue – complex conditions causing pain and fatigue
- Rheumatology – inflammatory conditions of the joints of the body

2. APPOINTMENTS & TREATMENT
Do I need a referral?
No, you can self-refer. We also accept referrals from:
- GPs
- Consultants
- Case managers
- Insurance providers
How soon can I have an appointment?
We do not operate waiting lists.
In most cases, we can arrange an assessment within 24–72 hours, and same-day appointments may be available.
What should I expect in my first session?
Your first session typically includes:
- Initial assessment
- Goal setting
- Introduction to treatment
Will I receive treatment on my first visit?
If your appointment is booked as an assessment and treatment session, treatment is usually provided during your first visit.
For more complex cases, treatment may begin after the initial assessment, but wherever possible we aim to start treatment immediately.
How long is a physiotherapy or hydrotherapy session?
- Musculoskeletal assessments: approximately 30 minutes
- Neurological and paediatric assessments: up to 60 minutes
- Standard treatment sessions: 30 minutes
- Extended sessions: up to 60 minutes where required
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions required depends on several factors, including:
- The nature and complexity of your condition
- How long you have had the condition
- Your individual goals
- Your response to treatment
Your physiotherapist will provide a clear treatment plan after your initial assessment.
3. PAYMENTS, REFERRALS & INSURANCE
Can I refer myself and do you accept insurance or charity funding?
Yes, we accept:
- Self-referrals
- GP and consultant referrals
- Case managers and solicitors
- Insurance providers
- Charity-funded patients
If you are using insurance or charity funding, we recommend contacting them first to obtain authorisation.
We aim to invoice insurers directly where possible.
4. PRACTICAL INFORMATION
What should I wear and bring to my appointment?
You should wear loose, comfortable clothing suitable for assessment and treatment.
For hydrotherapy sessions, you will need:
- Swimwear
- Two towels
We also recommend bringing:
- Relevant medical reports or scan results
- Any braces, supports or orthotics
- A family member or carer if assistance is required
Can I request a male or female physiotherapist?
Yes. We have both male and female physiotherapists available.
You can request your preference when booking your appointment.
What happens if I need to cancel or miss an appointment?
Appointments can be rearranged or cancelled with at least 48 hours’ notice.
If less than 48 hours’ notice is given, or if you fail to attend, the full session fee will be charged.
Where can I park?
Our clinic is located within the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.
- Parking is available on-site
- Free parking is available for Blue Badge holders
- Disabled parking is located in Car Park A
- Main parking is in Car Park C (charges apply)
Wheelchairs are available at reception if required.
