Hydrotherapy in Birmingham

Hydrotherapy is an excellent means of accelerating the return to work, or sport following a period of immobilization.

Can be effective in treating:

  • Back pain
  • Arthritis
  • Joint stiffness
  • Multiple joint problems
  • Post-operative weakness
  • Neurological weakness, spasticity and muscle shortening

Prevention rather than cure:

  • Conditions such as Osteoporosis benefit from hydrotherapy as an environment in which to exercise safely, strengthen bones and muscles hence reducing the likelihood of fractures.

Maintenance:

  • Exercise programmes are individualised to promote continued exercise after treatment has finished. This maximises the benefits gained from treatment.

Water Confidence:

  • It is not necessary to be able to swim to gain the benefits of Hydrotherapy.
  • The treatment is in a warm water pool (33-35 degrees) with your Hydrotherapist. Access is by steps, chair hoist or bed hoist, allowing all degrees of disability to enter/exit the pool.

Quality of Treatment:

  • All Hydrotherapists are Chartered State registered Physiotherapists with specialist training in the field of Hydrotherapy.

Our Approach & What to Expect on Your First Visit

When you book your first appointment our admin team will help you with any query you have and will send you all the documentation and information regarding the appointment

Can I refer myself to Bluebell? Do you accept Charity funding? Do you accept private medical insurance?

Yes, we accept referrals from anywhere. Bluebell Hydro and Physio do receive referrals from doctors but we also accept self-referrals and referrals from family, carers, solicitors, case managers, rehabilitation companies, consultants and many more.

How soon can I have a physiotherapy appointment?

Bluebell Hydro and Physio have no waiting lists. We are normally able to arrange an assessment within  24-72 hours. We can often provide same day appointments.

What should I wear? What should I bring with me to the hydrotherapy assessment?

Suitable clothing depends on the nature of your condition. It is likely that you will be required to undress to some degree to allow your physiotherapist to see and treat your problem. Loose clothing needs to be worn for the initial assessment and swimwear (waterproof if needed, must be provided) and two towels for the pool area.

To get the maximum benefit out of your initial assessment you should bring with you:

  • Suitable clothing
  • Relevant medical reports or letters
  • Relevant scan or x-ray reports
  • A relative if your memory is reduced
  • Any supports / braces / orthotics you use
  • Your running shoes if your condition is running related
  • A carer/family member(s) to assist with dressing and transfers after assessment if needed.
Will I receive treatment on my first visit?

If booked as a combined Initial Assessment and first treatment session, treatment is usually provided on the first visit and you will generally be advised of things to complete before your next treatment session. With very complex cases treatment may not begin at the first visit. Wherever possible treatment will always be provided at the first visit.

"Very impressed with our experience. My mum has received a lot of help over the past few weeks with her back and hip problems. The physiotherapist was able to locate the source of the main pain and with tailored exercises her condition has improved significantly.Highly recommend Bluebell!"

"I cannot recommend Bluebell highly enough. The facilities are great - clean and warm. The staff are kind, professional and always incredibly helpful. They helped my daughter whilst she was unable to walk or bear any weight when she was suffering from post viral myalgia following a covid infection. I will be forever grateful for all their support, in and out of the water."

"I couldn't describe how much the hydrotherapy has helped my younger brother with his tightness and spasticity! They make it incredibly fun and have adapted their treatment to suit his disability and blindness. If you are looking for hydrotherapy/physio for yourself or a loved one just go, it's worth every penny."

Ibraheem Mustafa

"Have been using the service for months now for my little boy who has spastic quadraplegia cerebral palsy. The staff were very friendly and helped him to work gently at his pace using all parts of his body. Now he can't wait to get back in the pool! He loves his sessions and they've adapted everything to suit his needs. Would recommend it to all!!"
